I don't know about you Lori, but Dan Pink's three levels: Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose really spoke to me. I feel that this is exactly the kind of life-long learner we all yearn to produce.

I totally agree with you that exploration is key to enhancing creativity. Allowing students that opportunity to discover things for themselves rather than the information just being handed over is far more beneficial.

I like the connection that you have implied between allowing oneself to make mistakes and the development of creativity skills. Many of the best opportunities for creativity (both for myself and students) have been when a proposed solution to a problem was determined to be insufficient. Nothing seems to drive creativity quite like failure coupled with a need to rectify said failure.
